Two Car Garage Size
Two-car garages can range in size, but most commonly, they are built in these sizes:
- 20×20
- 20×22
- 24×24
- 24×30
Which size is right for you? This depends on the size of your vehicles and if you want extra storage space or a workstation with a workbench.
Most of the time, the smaller two-car garage (20×20) will fit your two vehicles and will have a little bit of extra storage for bikes, ladders, trash cans, and some shelving. You may even have space for garden equipment or other outside gear.
If you have a larger garage, like a 24×24 or a 24×30 space, you could likely also fit a workbench in there for household projects, personal hobbies, or handyman repairs. This space also has ample area for shelving, bins, and other containers that can store holiday items, tools, or other work equipment that you will need from time to time.
If you are planning to build a garage or are considering buying a home, you might want to measure your vehicles to see what will fit in the space.
If you drive a large pickup truck or SUV, for example, you may need a larger garage, such as a 24×30. You should be able to comfortably park your vehicle and easily open and close the doors so you don’t need to worry about damaging the vehicle when you are getting in and out of it.
Of course, if you have a single-car garage, the width may be much lower than 24 feet or even 18 feet or 16 feet; some have a wide garage while others have much less space.
Condo associations have often built garages like this that are smaller than what’s considered a standard-sized garage door size. These types of garages are hard to get in and out of, and car doors can get dinged with car-garage dimensions of this type.
In short, depending on your car, garage size will determine whether you can park there or if you’ll have to use it as storage or a “man cave.”
